What's new#
Fixed#
- Minecraft settings no longer reset after playing 1.8.9 and then a newer version in the same instance (Vanilla plays both in one folder): the newer game failed to read the settings 1.8.9 had saved, started on its defaults, and those spread to every instance.
- Skins and capes on 1.8.9 to 1.12.2: with an Arctic cape, your skin came out invisible or scrambled and the cape showed your skin. Both are back where they belong (emotes that bend arms and legs used the wrong one too).
- Text on 1.8.9 to 1.12.2: obfuscated text (
&k) no longer shakes from side to side, and big text like titles is smooth instead of grey-edged. - Item physics: dropped items lie on top of snow instead of disappearing into it, and items a server holds in the air (shop displays, holograms) no longer spin and tumble forever.
- Disconnect screen: a long or multi-line reason no longer runs under the server address or into the buttons.
- Replays: a long recording on a busy server keeps compacting instead of stopping at the size limit.
Arctic Client#
- Sort Discover servers by most or fewest players, or by name, in the launcher and in game. Random stays the default.
- Direct Connection remembers the last address you joined, as in vanilla.
- Sliders on 1.8.9 to 1.12.2 (Music & Sounds and the others) get the Arctic look too.
Performance#
- Polarium on Minecraft 26.3: with a thousand players in view, about 145 FPS instead of 33 (26.2 and 26.1.2 get the same Polarium version).
- The launcher uses less memory: fonts for other scripts load only when they're shown, the capes page keeps still images until you hover one, and memory goes back to Windows when the launcher is hidden, minimized or behind the game.
Launcher#
- Interface size (Settings → Appearance, and the first start): Auto makes the launcher a little smaller on small or highly scaled screens, like a 1080p laptop at 150%, so everything fits; or pick 80% to 150% yourself.
- Cosmetics without an account: look around the Cosmetics tab and the skin gallery before signing in; the gallery has collections now.
- Glass theme: dialogs, menus, dropdowns and pickers are nearly solid, so their text reads over the aurora.
